Kevin Kuykendall of Great Falls, Amelia Smith of Vienna and Natalie DeChristopher of Vienna have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Tampa.

Grace Lehman of McLean has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Samford University.

Jesse Morgan of Great Falls and Samuel Langborgh of Vienna have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Florida Institute of Technology.

Caroline Burns of Great Falls; Emma Kim, John Maloney, Luke Maloney and Claire Powell of McLean; and Riley Fitzsimmons, Caleb McNaull and Mary Vanarsdall of Vienna have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Fairfield University.

Anton Kopti of McLean is performing in Bridgewater College’s production of “A Bold Stroke for a Wife,” running Feb. 15-18 at the college.

• Teams from local schools swept the board in the Northern Virginia Chapter area MATHCOUNTS competition, held Feb. 4 at Chantilly High School.

Longfellow Middle School, BASIS Independent McLean and Cooper Middle School finished 1-2-3 in the competition, with students taking four of the five top spots in individual competition.

The Longfellow Middle School team, coached by Patti Freeman, consisted of Shunyao Yan, Michelle Lin, Anderson Hao and Yeeyung Li.

The BASIS Independent McLean team, coached by Jessica Chen, consisted of Ian Wang, Rebecca Chen, Tang Tang and Chloie Giglio.

The Cooper Middle School team, coached by Lisa Walsh, consisted of Bennett Huang, Edward Guo, Ryan Guo and Ethan Shan.

Longfellow’s Yan finished first in individual competition in the Northern Virginia Chapter area, with Cooper’s Huang second, and Basis Independent McLean students Chen and Wang fourth and fifth.

About 420 students in sixth through eighth grades at 46 schools (plus home school) participate in the local event, part of an international initiative that was created in 1983 by the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers, National Council of Teachers of Mathematicsand CNA Foundation.

Top-performing teams and individuals move on to the state MATHCOUNTS competition, to be held March 4 in Fredericksburg.

• The Great Falls Garden Club is sponsoring a grant of $150 for a student in grades 5 to 11 to create a native-habitat garden.

The initiative, now in its second year, is designed to support “planting native-habitat gardens that provide shelter and food for animals, birds and insects,” the club noted.

Applications are due by April 15. Additional information can be found at Great Falls Library or on the garden club’s Website at www.gfgardenclub.org.
