A work by Denise Phalan, who will discuss her technique at the March 22, 2024, meeting of the McLean Art Society.

Local artist Denise Phalan will be the featured presenter at the monthly meeting of the McLean Art Society, to be held on Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the McLean Community Center.

Phalan will share her personal sketch books that serve as an important component in her process of oil painting and creating mixed media and collage.

Phalan is a member of the Oil Painters of America and Austin Plein Air. Her studio is located at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton.

“Ms. Phalan is happiest when she is working at her art,” McLean Art Society leaders said. “She gravitates to Matisse’s philosophy about art being a comfortable armchair. She looks to the beauty of the world, to places, people and to their possessions, and endeavors to make art that is intriguing, thought-provoking and emotive.”

The community is invited.
