The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. Northern Virginia Business and Professional Women’s Club (NOVABPW) Mid-Atlantic District recently held its 2024 “Founders’ Day” program, dedication and candlelight service at Mrs. Jo’s Petite Eats Patisserie and Café in McLean.
NOVABPW has a “heartfelt duty to uplift our fellow members who are business and professional owners,” the organization added. “We are dedicated to sharing valuable insights into industry trends, equipping them with essential tools, and fostering connections among entrepreneurs. These connections serve as pathways to forge mutually enriching partnerships, which nurture the growth of their businesses and professional endeavors.”
The event paid homage to the seven women who founded the national organization, and also to the two who established the Northern Virginia chapter: Sherelle T. Carper (a former national president) and Darnell Crewe Wise-Lightbourn, who also serves as the organization's vocal-arts coordinator.
“Their influence on our organization and society resonates deeply, leaving an enduring imprint fueled by their boundless vision and unwavering passion,” the organization said.
“As an organization, we realize that our efforts to serve our young people, assist in improving the quality of life and fostering good fellowship must not only continue, but continue with a goal of seeing tangible and lasting change,” Carper and Wise-Lightbourn added.
Decorations for the event were designed by Ms. Deborah Miller of Event Plans and Designs by Deborah
The local chapter also hosts a scholarship program, empowering young women to pursue higher education.
“Each passing year, we witness a growing number of aspiring young women eager to carve their paths as impactful business owners and professionals, inspired by those who came before them,” organization leaders said.
