New Zealand’s Trick of the Light Theatre presents “The Griegol” on Saturday, March 25 at 4 p.m. at the Alden Theatre of the McLean Community Center.

Designed for ages 13 to adult, the performance is described as an eerie, elegant, wordless tale about death, love, grief and monsters.

“After a child’s granny passes away, she starts to suspect she is being pursued by the smoke-demon shapeshifter from the old woman’s stories,” producers said, calling the work “a mythic, gorgeously rendered dark fantasy for lovers of theater that conjures magic and laughter out of silhouettes, puppetry, live music and animation.”

The production is supported by the Performing Arts Global Exchange program of Mid-Atlantic Arts, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Australian government.
