VIENNA POLICE ARREST FAIRFAX MAN ON STRANGULATION, DOMESTIC-ASSAULT CHARGES: A resident living on Cedar Lane, S.E., told Vienna police on Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. that her ex-husband had arrived at her apartment and a verbal dispute had ensued.

The resident asked her ex-husband to leave and he allegedly began to assault and strangle her, then left the area, police said.

Rescue personnel took the resident to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Police went to the magistrate’s office and obtained two warrants and an emergency protective order against the ex-husband.

At 10:30 p.m., officers went to the man’s residence along with officers from the Fairfax County Police Department. Vienna police arrested the 43-year-old Fairfax man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with warrants charging felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault, plus the emergency protective order.

VIENNA POLICE MAKE MULTIPLE ARRESTS AFTER FIGHTS AT CHURCH’S HYPOTHERMIA SHELTER: Vienna police arrested two men Feb. 3 after responding to three incidents at the FACETS Hypothermia Prevention Shelter at Church of the Holy Comforter, 543 Beulah Road, NE

Between 7 and 7:17 p.m., officers responded to the report of a fight between two people staying at the shelter. Neither party wished to pursue charges.

Officers responded at 10:25 p.m. to the report of another fight at the shelter. The shelter’s staff advised that a man was acting disorderly and antagonizing others in the shelter.

Upon interacting with the man, police detected signs of impairment and arrested the 55-year-old man with no fixed address. Police transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with being drunk in public.

Town police then responded at 11:11 p.m. to the report of yet another fight at the shelter. Staff reported one of the people staying there was provoking another resident and had begun throwing chairs and yelling profanities, resulting in a fight when the other tried to defend himself.

Police arrested the 28-year-old man with no fixed address and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with simple assault.

VIENNA POLICE CITE MAN, 18, LECTURE MULTIPLE MINORS AFTER RAUCOUS PARTY: Vienna police officers responded Feb. 4 at 10:06 p.m. to the report of a party  in the 1000 block of Elmar Drive, S.W., where multiple juveniles allegedly were drinking and smoking.

The party began to disperse as officers arrived. Officers spoke to a resident, the homeowner’s son, who advised he was hosting the party. The homeowner returned home, unaware her son was having his friends over.

Police issued a summons to the 18-year-old resident charging him with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and released him on his signature.

Town police at 10:33 p.m. received a complaint regarding loud juveniles in the vicinity who possibly were leaving the party on Elmar Drive, S.W. Police located five teenage boys near a construction site in the 200 block of Tapawingo Road, S.E. Four of the juveniles had consumed alcohol, police said.

Police took the juveniles to Vienna Police Headquarters, verbally counseled the youths and notified their parents to pick them up.

VIENNA RESIDENT DEFRAUDED WHILE BUYING CONCERT TICKETS ONLINE: A resident living in the 600 block of Kearney Court, S.W., told Vienna police that, between Feb. 3 and 4, she had been defrauded of money when she tried to purchase concert tickets through a post on Twitter.

After sending the money, she realized the post was a scam, police said.

CUSTOMER BANNED AFTER TAKING WINE FROM CONVENIENCE STORE WITHOUT PAYING: An employee at 7-Eleven, 427 Maple Ave., E., told Vienna police on Feb. 6 at 12:06 a.m. that a man had  attempted to purchase beer after midnight, when the store stops selling alcohol.

When the employee refused the transaction, the man allegedly left the beer, grabbed a bottle of wine from the shelf and left without paying for it, police said.

The employee confronted the man in the parking lot and took the bottle back. The employee did not wish to pursue charges, but requested that the man be banned from the store.

An officer advised the man he would be charged with trespassing if he returns to the premises.

POLICE ARREST VIENNA MAN FOR MISDEMEANOR ASSAULT AFTER ALTERCATION WITH DOG WALKER: A woman was walking her dog near Talahi and Ninovan roads, S.E., on Feb. 6 between 7 and 7:40 a.m. when she got into a verbal altercation with a driver who reportedly had committed a traffic offense, Vienna police said.

After the altercation, the woman continued walking her dog when she heard the screeching tires and the horn of the vehicle as it began approaching her, stopping just before hitting her and striking her dog’s tail, police said.

Police obtained a warrant charging misdemeanor assault for the driver, a 59-year-old Vienna man. An officer served the warrant to the man and released him on his signature.

VIENNA POLICE WARN MAN WHO LEFT DOG IN VEHICLE’S TRUNK: A local resident on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. observed a man place his dog in the trunk of his vehicle at Meadow Lane Park, 400 Courthouse Road, S.W. When the animal-control officer arrived, he could hear the dog barking in the trunk, police said.

The dog’s owner approached the animal-control officer and stated he had placed his dog in the trunk to secure it while he was taking his children to the park. The officer advised him that placing the dog in the trunk was cruel to the animal, Vienna police said.

The officer found the dog was in good health,and warned the man about leaving an animal alone in a vehicle.

MAN STEALS CARTONS OF CIGARETTES FROM VIENNA CONVENIENCE STORE: An employee at Wawa, 465 Maple Ave., W., told Vienna police on Feb. 8 at 7:36 a.m. that a man had walked into the employees’ room, stolen two boxes full of cartons of cigarettes, run from the store and fled in a vehicle.
