Members of the BASIS Independent McLean forensics squad celebrate their success at a recent competition.

The BASIS Independent McLean debate team earned second place overall for the season and qualified for the WACFL (Washington-Arlington Catholic Forensics League) Metro finals, held recently at Colgan High School in Manassas.

Sophomore Ben Rask and senior Shaun Jones came in first in the entire league and lost only one contested ballot and no rounds in the tournament, while juniors Sachin Letchumanan and Saaketh Venigalla took home second place in the varsity division and freshmen Colin Beckner and Rishik Puli garnered third place in the junior-varsity competition.

The two varsity teams will move on to compete in the national tournament, to be held over the Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
