Tuckahoe, Chesterbrook remain in NVSL's top summer division

Five-week regular season begins for all 102 teams in mid June

There won’t be much change among the Division 1 teams for this summer’s Northern Virginia Swimming League season.

After the annual realignment of the league’s 17 divisions, of the six teams in the top division, five return from 2023, including the defending champion Tuckahoe Tigers of McLean. Also back from McLean are the 2022 champion Chesterbrook Tiger Sharks and the Highlands Swim Club Whomping Turtles, and from Arlington the Overlee Flying Fish and Donaldson Run Thunderbolts.

The lone new Division 1 team is the 2023 Division 2 champion Old Keene Mill Osprey of Burke. They replace the McLean Marlins, who fall to Division 2 after finishing 0-5 in Division 1 last summer.

The 2024 five-week summer regular season begins for the 102 teams with Saturday morning meets on June 15. Following those will be the two-week postseason, with 17 divisional meets Saturday, July 20, followed by the individual all-star competition on Saturday, July 27 at Pinecrest pool in Herndon.

In Division 1 opening-week meets, all starting at 9 a.m., Tuckahoe visits Donaldson Run, Chesterbrook hosts Old Keene Mill and Highlands hosts 2023 runner-up Overlee. Chesterbrook finished third in the division a year ago.

Chesterbrook has been in Division 1 every summer dating to 2000, winning 11 championships in that time.

There is some movement of other local teams in the GazetteLeader’s coverage areas of Fairfax County for the 2024 campaign, while others remain in the same divisions as last year.

Staying in Division 2 are the Langley Wildthings, with the Kent Gardens Dolphins falling one spot to Division 3.

After winning Division 4 last summer, the Oakton Otters jump to Division 2.

The Hamlet Green Feet stay in Division 3 while the Cardinal Hill Cardinals fall from Division 3 to Division 5.

Vienna Woods remains in Division 4, with the 2023 Division 5 champion Vienna Aquatic Club Gators climbing one spot to Division 4.

The Dunn Loring Dolphins and Hunter Mill Sharks return to Division 6, with the Lakevale Estates Dolphins slipping two spots to Division 8.

The Great Falls Rapids have fallen from Division 10 to Division 12, while the Shouse Village Sharks climb two spots from Division 14 to Division 12 after winning a championship last summer with a 5-0 mark in Division 14.

The 2024 league-wide all-star relay cardinal is Wednesday, July 10 at Rutherford pool in Fairfax. Tuckahoe won the relay carnival last summer with Chesterbrook second.

Vienna Woods and Cardinal Hill host divisional meets on July 20.
