A contractor working for the Fairfax County Park Authority is mobilizing to install numerous upgrades at McLean Central Park's basketball court over the next six weeks.

The Fairfax County Park Authority in the first week of April began renovations to McLean Central Park basketball court.

Work crews with contractor ATC are mobilizing on-site and preparing to:

• Replace two basketball-goal systems.

• Perform a stone-dust-and-asphalt overlay of the existing basketball court.

• Do color coating and line painting.

• Install a 10-foot-tall vinyl-coated fence on the court’s northern end.

• Put in place a memorial bench.

Weather permitting, officials expect the project to take six weeks to complete. The park will remain open to the public, but the work may affect access to some areas, including the parking lot behind Dolley Madison Library.

The total project budget is $65,177, with $45,177 coming from community contributions. The Friends and Neighbors of Thomas A. Mulquin contributed toward the initiative, which also received funding through the Park Authority’s Mastenbrook Grant Program.

Questions and concerns about the project may be directed to the Marcos Suarez at Marcos.Suarez@fairfaxcounty.gov.
