Madison, McLean athletes place high at track and field meet

Kabasele had strong showing in boys hurdle races

Madison High School's Kiki Van Der Weide finished second in the girls 800-meter race at the Lake Braddock Hall of Fame Invitational track and field meet.

Individually, the Madison Warhawks and McLean Highlanders had some top finishers at the recent Lake Braddock Hall of Fame Invitational outdoor track and field meet.

For the McLean High School boys, Kevin Kabasele won the 110-hurdles in 14.96 and was second in the 300 hurdles and Liam Riley was seventh in the 1,600.

Kabasele was a champion in the boys 55-hurdles during the indoor season’s Liberty District meet and was a top-six long-jump and triple-jump finisher.

Leading the Madison boys was Sumay Frueh with an eighth in the triple jump, a 15th in the long jump and a 16th in the high jump.

For the McLean girls, Emory Conroy won the 300 hurdles (47.31) and was eighth in the 100 meters, Daniela Diaz was third in the 3,200 and eighth in the 1,600, Avery Diaz was third and Camille Stephant fourth in the pole vault, Allyson Hodder was eighth in the shot put and Sophie Knudson was eighth in the 100 hurdles.

The Madison girls were led by Kiki Van Der Weide’s second in the 800 (2:18.5), a fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 200 by Gabrielle Antoine, a fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump by Maya Gupta, a fifth in the 400 by Mia Romer, a fifth in the pole vault by Molly McShane, a sixth in the pole vault by Nora French and a ninth in the high jump by Elizabeth Root.

Van Der Weide’s runner-up 800 finish was behind Rickelle Bush of West Springfield in 2:17.09.
