Langley track and field teams tie for first at Battlefield meet

Competition consisted of relay and individual events

With 88 points for the girls and 75 for the boys, the Langley Saxons each were co-champions with the event hosts at the recent Battlefield High School relays in Prince William County.

The competition consisted of relay races and individual events.

The Langley teams each won two relays.

The girls were first in the 800 sprint medley (1:52.81) and the 4x200 (1:47.07), had thirds in the 4,000 distance medley and 4x800 and fourths in the sprint relay and 4x100.

The boys won the 4x200 (1:34.96) and sprint relay (3:47.53), were second in the 4x400 and 4,000 distance, placed third in the 4x1,600 and fourth in the 4x800.

Leading the Langley girls in individual events was Alexandra DeLong. She won the long jump (16-feet, 4-inches), was third in the high jump and fourth in the 100 hurdles.

Liliana DeLong was fifth in the pole vault and 10th in the 100  hurdles, Ashley Varacalli was fourth in the high jump, Mei Zhang fourth in the triple jump, Bianc Watson fifth in the triple jump, Vela Pascual sixth in the pole vault and Seanna Fishman seventh in the shot put and 15th in the discus.

Leading the Langley boys was Blake Thompson with a win in the discus (141-4) and a seventh in the shot put. Evan Krawczk was third in the discus, Dylan Thomas was fourth and Payton Kopferberg fifth in the 1,600, Luke Stayin fourth in the pole vault, Sathvik Lakamsani fifth in the high jump, Joe Korchnak sixth in the shot and Wesley Kim ninth in the 110 hurdles.

For the Madison girls, the 4,000 distance medley won (13:03.86), Maya Gupta was third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump and Elizabeth Root fifth in the high jump.

For the Madison boys, Darren Knicely was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump and Mark DePaul was fifth in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump.
