March 1 is still D-Day for the end of coin collection along the Dulles Toll Road.

Starting that date, travelers who previously tossed coins in baskets to pay the toll will instead find their license plates photographed and receive a monthly bill in the mail for tolls accrued.

About 98 percent of travelers on the roadway currently use EZPass to bypass the coin baskets, but “it’s important we get the word out” about the upcoming change, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority CEO Jack Potter said.

Until the onset of COVID in March 2020, there were human toll-takers at the main plaza and some secondary entry points, but they was eliminated early in the pandemic.
