Many Arlington basketball players chosen to all-district teams

Wakefield senior forward selected as the boys Player of the Year

Yorktown High School freshman Eleanor Mahshie was chosen first-team All-Liberty District in girls basketball.

Multiple basketball players from Arlington were chosen to girls and boys all-Liberty District teams for their regular-season performances during the 2023-24 high-school basketball campaign.

Chosen as the boys Liberty District Player of the Year was Wakefield Warriors’ senior forward Carlton Young, who also made the first team. Fellow Wakefield senior forward Miles Jackson also was chosen to the first team, along with Yorktown Patriots junior forward Andrew Maria.

Chosen to the boys second team from Arlington schools were senior guard B.J. Willis of Wakefield, senior forward Matt Bristol of the Washington-Liberty Generals and sophomore guard Jake Coulam of Yorktown.

Honorable-mention selections were senior guard Leo Fall of W-L, junior guard/forward Austin Barbieri of Yorktown, junior guard Brennan Pilot of Yorktown, sophomore guard Jeremiah Poole of Wakefield, and freshman guard Kevin McClinton of Wakefield.

Making the boys all-district defensive first team were Willis and McLinton.

The three girls from Arlington schools picked first-team all-district were Washington-Liberty junior guard Frances Shapiro, W-L sophomore forward Eve Jungman and Yorktown sophomore guard Eleanor Mahshie.

Chosen to the second team were Wakefield senior guard Helena Helms, Washington-Liberty junior guard Julia Kelly, Yorktown junior forward Helene Lydon and W-L freshman guard Kathryn Wagener.

Honorable-mention choices were Washington-Liberty senior forward Malek Ben Hammouda, Yorktown junior forward Victoria Carcillo and Wakefield sophomore guard Dominique Harris.

Chosen to the all-defensive team were Shapiro, Harris and Yorktown freshman forward Olivia Shiplett.

The all-rookie team included Wagener as the Rookie of the Year, Shiplett and Wakefield freshman forward Camille Marston.

The Wakefield players helped the boys earn the top seed in the district tournament, while the all-district Washington-Liberty girls helped the Generals earn the second seed.
