Wakefield track and field teams win girls, boys county meets

Individuals place high in many events for the Warriors

Kendey Shields won two races in the county meet for the Wakefield girls team.

The Wakefield Warriors swept the recent girls and boys Arlington County outdoor track and field meet championships held at Yorktown High School. Each high-school team had multiple individual winners and other top finishers.

The Wakefield boys defended their title and the girls improved on a close second-place finish last spring.

For the boys team, Michael Hutchinson scored maximum points in winning the shot put and discus. Charles Randolph was second in discus and sixth shot put. Leo Hoil was fifth in the discus.

Travon Buckner won the triple jump with Isaiah Ledbetter, Frank Mani and Ben Chapuis all placing in the event. Ledbetter was second in high jump. Chris Gilpin won the 100 dash and long jump. Silas Lesparance and Owen Jacques placed first and second in the 100 dash and Chapuis, Buckner and Mani all scored in the long jump.

Also, Jackson Gray was second and Diego Fernandez third in pole vault, Thuyon Smith was second in the 100 and third in the 200, Noah Gunville was second in the 3,200, Liam Keish was second in the 1,600 and Logan Ward had top five finishes in the 800 and 1,600. Gunville, Ward, Joseph Sparks and Jack Guy teamed to win the 4x800 relay.

For the Wakefield girls, Kenedy Shields won the 100 and 200 and high jump and was second in the long jump, and Grace Armitage won the 100 and 300 hurdles races and led off the winning 4x100 relay.  Hosanna Connor won pole vault, was second in the 100 hurdles, and ran a strong leg of the second-place 4x400 relay. She scored additional points in long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Eulalia Sarli was second and Addy Young third in the 800 and both ran on the 4x400. Young was fifth in the 1,600.

Sofia Vazquez was second in pole vault and sixth in the long jump. Fatou Bob was fourth and fifth in the hurdle races, A.J. Jordan was third in the 400, Lina Kertache was seventh in the 300 hurdles and Kindu Okoko and Quincy Daigle placed in events.
