An eighth-grade Arlington Travel Basketball girls team that plays in Division I recently organized a donation of more than 154 pounds of food that was distributed to Fairfax County Public Schools as part of the Power Pack Program.

The donation included 50 power packs of food, each containing a two-day supply of food and snacks.

The bags of food were assembled Feb. 18 by players Lola Vidaurre, Tia Andersson, Dylan Plummer, Riley Wishneff, Parker Matthews, Charlotte Donato, Adriana Ordenes, Lucy Strawn, Quinn Brundage, Ella Kauffman, Lyla Kelly and Mia Munoz. The team coaches were Lizz Kauffman, Paul Donato and Chris Matthews.

The Power Pack Program provides weekend meals to Fairfax students experiencing food insecurity, and serves 45 schools.

“We liked this service project since it is giving back to the community that supports the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League,” Lizz Kauffman said.

Parker Matthews was the Arlington team’s Fairfax County Youth Basketball Association all-league selection for her performance during the 2023-24 season.
