From left: Kate Tuttle, Mackenzie Fulgham, Ally Griswold and Tenley Overdeck made up the Potomac School's girls state champion 4x400 relay.

Led by first- and second-place finishes  in different events from senior Mackenzie Fulgham, the Potomac School Panthers finished third in the girls Division I private-school indoor state track and field meet.

The Panthers finished behind St. Catherine’s and Collegiate.

“Third was about where I thought we would come out,” Potomac School coach Meredith Valmon said. “They had a great showing. They work hard so they can get this kind of a result.”

Fulgham won the 500-meter race in 1:18.07, was second in the 300 in 41.68 and anchored Potomac School’s winning 4x400 relay in 4:09.23. She will run in college at Brown University.

The team’s other individual state champion was sophomore Ally Griswold in the 300 (41.01). She also won the 300 in last year’s state meet.

“Ally is an impressive talent who has a chance to be a four-time state champion in the 300,” Valmon said.

Senior Kate Tuttle was third in the 1,000 for Potomac School, sophomore Michele Horton was fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump, senior Tenley Overdeck was sixth in the 500, junior Arielle Kouyoumdjian was eighth in the 3,200 and the 4x200 relay was fourth.

Griswold, Overdeck and Tuttle joined Fulgham on the winning 4x400 relay.

Tuttle will run at Williams College, Overdeck at Pomona-Pitzer College in the Los Angeles area.

For the Flint Hill girls, senior Chanel Harvey was third in the shot put.

In the boys state meet, Potomac School’s  Alex Mathews was third in the 1,000 and Cole Griswold was fourth in the 500 and third in the 300.
