Oakton to host multi-team holiday girls basketball classic

The annual Cougar Holiday Classic girls basketball competion again will be hosted by Oakton High School, this year on Dec. 27 through 29.

The round-robin event, one of the longest running all-girls holiday high-school basketball tournaments in the metro area, will include 12 teams. There will be six games each day, beginning at 11 a.m, with the last contest scheduled to tip off at 7:45 p.m. The Oakton Cougars will play the final game all three dates.

Oakton has hosted the event for a number of years. All games are non-league action.

This year’s classic includes top 6D North Region and Occoquan Region public-school teams Oakton, the Langley Saxons and the Robinson Rams and the Woodgrove Wolverines from a different region.

Woodgrove and Langley were undefeated through Dec. 19 games, and Robinson and Oakton had just one loss each. None of those teams will play the other during the classic.

Private-school teams St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes and Holy Child (4-1) are participating, along with public-school squads Unity-Reed from Manassas and Surratsville from Prince George’s County.

Northern Virginia public-school teams Falls Church, Justice, Marshall and Patriot are the other teams entered.

Dec. 27 games: 11 a.m. Justice vs. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes; 12:45 p.m. Falls Church vs. Patriot; 2:30 p.m. Holy Child vs. Langley; 4:15 p.m. Robinson vs. Surratsville; 6 p.m. Woodgrove vs. Marshall; 7:45 p.m. Oakton vs. Unity Reed.

Dec. 28 games: 11 a.m. Holy Child vs Patriot; 12:45 p.m. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes vs. Robinson; 2:30 p.m. Surratsville vs. Woodgrove; 4:15 p.m. Marshall vs. Unity Reed; 6 p.m. Langley vs. Falls Church; 7:45 p.m. Oakton vs. Justice.

Dec. 29 games: 11 a.m. Falls Church vs. Marshall; 12:45 p.m. Unity Reed vs. Justice; 2:30 p.m. Surratsville vs. Langley; 4:15 p.m. Woodgrove vs. Patriot; 6 p.m. Robinson vs. Holy Child; 7:45 p.m. Oakton vs. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes.
