Oakton High senior has runner-up finish in state track meet

Distance runner places a close second in boys 3,200-meter event

Oakton High School senior runner Junior Allen finished a close second in the boys 3,200-meter race at the Class 6 state indoor championships.

With a close second-place in the 3,200-meter boys race, Oakton Cougars’ senior Junior Allen had the highest individual finish of any local athlete at the recent Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state indoor track and field championships.

Allen’s time was 9:27.57. The winning mark was 9:27.34. Allen also was ninth in the 1,600.

Also for the 18th-place Oakton boys, Logan Ecton was sixth in the 55 hurdles.

Continuing in the boys meet, Langley’s Blake Thompson was seventh in the shot put and his teammate Tejus Verma was ninth in the 500 meters.

McLean High’s Liam Riley was ninth in the 1,000, Jonas Knudson was ninth in the pole vault and the 4x800 relay finished sixth.

In the girls meet, the top local individual finisher was McLean High’s Marie-Odette De Marcellus with a fourth in the high jump (5-feet, 4-inches).

For the Langley girls, the 4x200 relay was  third and Alexandra DeLong was fifth in the long jump.

For the Madison girls, Kiki Van Der Weide was fifth in the 1,000.

Oakton’s Aurora Ayala was sixth in the pole vault, Caroline Sapperstein was seventh in the 3,200 and the 4x800 relay was fifth.

Adrianna Haggerty Graham was sixth in the shot put for the Marshall girls.
