Oakton High hosts annual Suburban Classic basketball competition

Competition will include many top senior girls players

The 18th annual Suburban Classic girls high-school all-star basketball event is scheduled for Sunday, March 19 at Oakton High School. The popular classic is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Women’s Basketball Association. It will include a three-point shooting contest at 1 p.m., then an all-star game at 2 p.m.

The competitions include some of the top high-school senior players from Northern Virginia. Admission is $7. Proceeds go to the Northern Virginia Women’s Basketball Association’s scholarship fund. Donations are welcome.

The players for the 6D North Region will be Caitlin Crump from Oakton High School, Sarah Link and Kayla Dixon from Madison, Shushan Krikorian and Kara Bremser from McLean, Jessica Dornak and Renee Timbers from South Lakes, Loren Nelson from Wakefield, Bella Bruce from Westfield and Aylin Humphrey from Herndon.

Centreville High's Jo McLane will be the head coach.

Players from the Occoquan Region will be Toni McCrae from Edison High School, Litzy Lujan-Gonzalez and Princess Mensah from Mount Vernon, Elizabeth Cheek from Justice, Amor Harris from Alexandria City, Caroline Shimp and Amelia Simonsen from Robinson, Rachel Dexter from West Springfield, Tina Vaughn from Lake Braddock and Gaelen McCarty from Fairfax. Barbara Burgess from Justice will be the team's coach.

Also, year-end awards and a scholarship will be awarded.
