McLean's Kevin Kabasele was chosen second-team all-state on defense for his play during the 2023 high-school football season.

McLean High School senior strong safety and linebacker Kevin Kabasele was a second-team Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state selection as an all-purpose player on defense for his performance during the 2023 football season.

He was the Highlanders’ leading tackler with more than 100 tackles in 11 games, often with double-digit tackles in single contests.

Kabasele helped McLean to its first winning season in many years and a 6D North Region playoff berth as the No. 4 seed. McLean lost in the first round to the Herndon Hornets.

Kabasele was the only player from McLean chosen all-state.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Kabasele also was chosen as the Liberty District’s defensive Player of the Year for his performance and was a first-team all-6D North Region selection.

Kabasele wants to play college football but that process is still unfolding.
