McLean finishes third in girls state gymnastics meet

The Liberty District and 6D North Region champion McLean Highlanders completed their girls gymnastics season by finishing third in the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state meet in Virginia Beach.

McLean’s team score was 139.45. Lake Braddock won with 148.325 with Battlefield second at 142.3. Deep Run was fourth (137.35) in the four-team event.

In the individual competition, McLean’s Leah Sexton had a 9.3 on the vault and an 8.9 on the floor exercise.

Also for McLean in the individual events, Emery Conroy had a 9.2 on the floor and Kristen Harrje an 8.95 on the balance beam. Brooke Hawken, Skylar Thomas, Adeline Gevinson, Maia Lee, Isabelle Padgett, Olivia Nguyen and Anna Ntep also competed for McLean in the team competition.

Marshall High’s Molly Perkins scored a 9.35 on the beam to finish seventh.
