Many Flint Hill grads playing for men's college hoop teams

Some are seeing more time on the court than others

Flint Hill School graduate Qudas Wahab is a key player this season for the Penn State men's basketball team.

Flint Hill School graduate Qudus Wahab is the starting center for the Penn State University men's basketball team this winter.

Through 12 games, the 6-foot-11 graduate student has started each contest and averages 10.1 points and nine rebounds per contest. He has blocked 18 shots and has eight steals and as many assists.

Penn State is the third college team Wahab has played for. He also was a member of the men's teams at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland.

For Georgetown last season, Wahab started 25 games, averaged 9.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest.

In high school, Wahab, from Lago, Nigeria, played two seasons at Flint Hill and earned first-team all-state honors.

Wahab is a number of Flint Hill School graduates on men's college basketball teams this season. All played at Flint Hill under head coach Rico Reed.

Others are Gibraltar Coleman at American University, Nate Pabis (Amherst College), Jack O'Grady (Elmira College), Reis Jones (Florida SouthWestern State College), Jordan Hairston (Howard University), Saxby Sunderland (Longwood University), Ronald Ayers (Stevenson University), Noel Brown (St. Bonaventure University) and Stephen Kennedy (walk-on at Villanova University).

Sunderland, a 6-4 guard/forward, has played in eight games and averages 4.6 points and has made seven three-pointers. Hairston, a 6-foot guard, has played in 13 games and scores 4.8 points per outing and has made six threes. Brown, a 6-11 center, has played in 11 games, averaging 6.7 points and 2.5 rebounds each contest.

Jones is a 6-11 center who has played in 12 games. He averages 6.3 points a game, 3.5 rebounds and has blocked 14 shots. Ayers, a 6-3 guard, has played in nine games and averages 11.3 points and 3.1 rebounds. He has made a team-best 12 threes, has 19 assists and seven steals.
