Langley, Madison, Oakton basketball players chosen all-state

Rahman selected to the first team, Toole, Gougoufkas make second team

Langley High School junior guard/forward Anya Rahman was a first-team Virginia High School League Class 6 girls all-state basketball selection for her production this season, while Madison High senior forward Stella Gougoufkas and Oakton High sophomore guard Sophie Toole were chosen second-team all-state.

Rahman was Langley’s leading scorer, helping the Saxons finish with a 21-4 record and earning the top seed in the Liberty District tournament. She also was the district’s and 6D North Region’s Player of the Year.

Rahman averaged 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game and she made 47 three-pointers.

Gougoufkas was Madison’s leading scorer, helping the Warhawks finish 12-13 and reach the semifinals of the region tournament. She will play in college at the College of the Holy Cross.

Toole was one of Oakton’s top scorers and rebounders. She helped the Cougars finish 22-7, win a second straight Concorde District tournament championship, then finish second in the region tourney for the second year in a row and earn a Class 6 state-tourney berth.

Toole scored 13 points in the region championship game against Centreville. Junior guard Kennedy Parrott of Centreville also was chosen second-team all-state.

Toole also is a standout softball player for the Oakton girls team during the spring outdoor season.
