Langley High baseball team wins big in season opener

The Langley Saxons opened their baseball season with a 12-1 home win over the Oakton Cougars (1-1) in a non-district game.

Luke Greehan and Adham Sahbezadah each had a couple of singles for to lead the Langley hitters, Parker Whelan and Thomas Sharp had sacrifice flies, Sharp and Owen Lochead added two-run singles and Dylan Raufer had a run-scoring single.

Nicholas Newburn started and got the win in the five-inning game. He struck out four in four innings. Gary Ahrens pitched the fifth.

Oakton defeated nipped the Herndon Hornets, 3-2, in its opening game, rallying from a 2-0 deficit.

Will Thompson had all three RBI with the game-winning two-run double and an earlier RBI single. Cooper Bradshaw singled and doubled, Beau Souders doubled, Zach Hansen singled and Noah Toole pitched the seventh inning to get the save with a strikeout.
