Langley girls basketball team keeps winning, now 8-0

Saxons have won seven close games, with one blowout victory

With a two more close victories followed by their first blowout, the Langley Saxons remained undefeated at 8-0 in girls high-school basketball action.

Langley’s first seven wins were all close and low scoring games, including two recent wins over South Lakes, 29-27, and Robinson, 43-39, each on the road. The team’s average margin of victories in those seven contests is 4.6 points, with its widest margin eight points and its closest two.

In the win over South Lakes, Bri Borcherding had 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals and Anya Rahman scored 10 with six rebounds and three steals. Also, Maddie Shamloo had four points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Against Robinson, Rahman scored 17 with four steals and two assists. Borcherding had 14 points and seven rebounds; Peyton Daley had six points, five boards and three assists; Shamloo had two points and five rebounds; and Vicky Zawisza had four points.

Langley began its Liberty District schedule this week against the host Herndon Hornets and won big, 53-26, scoring its most points in a single game so far this season.

Langley also faces another district rival in the Yorktown Patriots this week, then plays three non-district games in a holiday tournament at Oakton High School Dec. 27-29.
