Flint Hill, Oakcrest swimmers each win twice at state meet

Potomac School also had some top finishers

Flint Hill swimmer Simon Bermudez won two races and set two records at the state private-school meet.

Senior swimmer Simon Bermudez of Flint Hill School and sophomore Elizabeth Bryan of Oakcrest School were local double winners at the recent Virginia private-high school state-championship meet.

Bermudez won the boys individual medley in state record 1:47.13 while setting a new state mark, as well in winning the 100 backstroke in 47.68.

Bryan won the girls IM (2:03.21) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.40).

For the Potomac School girls, sophomore Kate Douglas won the girls 50 freestyle (23.35) and was second in the 100 free. Potomac School’s Maren Schwarz was second in the breast.

Also for the Oakcrest girls, Rowan Elliott was sixth in the back.

For the Madeira School girls, Sunny Chen was sixth in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 200 free and Kayla Smith was sixth in the 100 free. The 400 free relay was fourth.

Leading the Potomac School boys was Arav Bhargava with a seventh in the 500 free and 13th in the 100 free, and Will Walters was seventh in the back.

For the Bishop O’Connell boys, Paul Mullen was fourth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 free, Timmy Ayde was sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free, and Kellen Collevas was sixth in diving.

For the O’Connell girls, Maddie Cervenak was eighth in diving, and swimmers Anna Sullivan and Caroline Mullen had top-15 finishes.
