MCC TO HOST HEARING ON FY26 PROGRAMMING: The McLean Community Center Governing Board will meet on Wednesday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the center, beginning with a public hearing on programming for the fiscal year starting in July 2025.

“District residents are encouraged to attend the hearing to share their ideas and suggestions,” officials said. “They can also submit their comments by mail or e-mail.”

Local residents who wish to speak during the public-comment period of the regular board meeting (which will follow the programming hearing) should call the center at (703) 790-0123 in advance of the meeting to be placed on the agenda.

EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE COMING TO GREAT FALLS: Great Falls Area Ministry will host the annual Easter Sunrise Service, to be presented  on Sunday, March 31 at 6:30 a.m. at Great Falls Park.

LATIN AMERICAN/CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL COMING TO McLEAN: The McLean Community Center will present “Fiesta Del Sol: Latin American & Caribbean Festival” on Saturday, March 23 from 5 to 10 p.m.

“Enjoy the tastes and sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean right here in McLean,” said organizers.

The event will feature live bands, artisans, dance instruction and food-and-drink.

The event is free; the community is invited.

OIL PAINTER TO DISCUSS TECHNIQUE AT MEETING OF ART SOCIETY: Local artist Denise Phalan will be the featured presenter at the monthly meeting of the McLean Art Society, to be held on Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the McLean Community Center.

Phalan will share her personal sketch books that serve as an important component in her process of oil painting and creating mixed media and collage.

Phalan is a member of the Oil Painters of America and Austin Plein Air. Her studio is located at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton.

“Ms. Phalan is happiest when she is working at her art,” McLean Art Society leaders said. “She gravitates to Matisse’s philosophy about art being a comfortable armchair. She looks to the beauty of the world, to places, people and to their possessions, and endeavors to make art that is intriguing, thought-provoking and emotive.”

The community is invited.

COMMUNITY INVITED TO CHURCH’S EASTER EGG HUNT:  Lewinsville Presbyterian Church will host community Easter egg hunts on Saturday, March 30 at the church.

• Hunt #1 will be for ages 2-5 and will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.

• Hunt #2 will be for those in grades 1 to 3 and will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

• Hunt #3 will be for those in grades 4 and 5 and will be held from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

Each hunt will begin in the Pavilion (the garden area to the northeast  of the main parking lot) with activities and games. Egg hunts will follow in the garden.

There is no charge; all children must be accompanied by an adult. The church is located at the corner of Chain Bridge Road and Great Falls Street in McLean.

McLEAN PROJECT FOR ARTS SETS GALA TIME, PLACE:  McLean Project for the Arts’ signature event, Spring Benefit, will take place on Thursday, May 16 at a private residence in Historic Langley Farms.

“MPA relies on the funds raised at Spring Benefit to further its mission to educate and inspire the community through contemporary visual-arts exhibitions and arts-education programs – including MPA ArtReach, which extends these exhibitions into the community,” the organization noted.

Co-chaired by Cynthia Steele Vance and Mandy Mafi, the May 16 sunset party will feature festive fare from Windows Catering, music and more. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
