A sea of onlookers beholds fireworks July 2, 2023, at Yeonas Park in Vienna during the town’s Independence Day celebration. It was one of a host of events across the region to celebrate the nation’s 247th birthday.

Vienna again will be holding its Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show on July 2 at Yeonas Park and the Town Council on March 4 approved a memorandum of understanding with Vienna Little League for the use of those facilities.

Like several other Northern Virginia communities, Vienna in recent years has been holding its Independence Day celebration earlier than the traditional July 4 because of difficulties in securing fireworks vendors.

The pyrotechnics will be launched from nearby Southside Park and spectators will be able to enjoy them, as well as offerings from entertainers and food vendors, at a safe distance away at Yeonas Park.

Under the agreement, Yeonas Park’s parking lot would close no earlier than 1 p.m. on July 2 and designated spectator areas would not be available to the public until at least 6 p.m. Entertainment and music will start at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will commence at 9:30 p.m.

Town police and staff will clear the public from the site by 11 p.m. Cleanup work will start promptly after the show and be finished by 11 a.m. the next day.

If rain spoils the day, the town will have a fireworks show only on July 3 at the same location.

The town will require the fireworks vendor to supply an insurance certificate indemnifying Vienna Little League for the event’s duration.
