The Fairfax County Health Department has successfully maintained its national-accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

The county agency remains one of only 325 accredited local health departments out of nearly 3,500 eligible nationwide.

The accreditation program sets standards against which the nation’s public-health departments can continuously enhance the quality of their services and organizational performance, county officials said.

“This designation validated our continued efforts to become a values-driven, high performing organization committed to protecting, promoting and improving health for all in our community,” said Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu, the county government’s health director.

The Fairfax County Health Department earned initial accreditation in 2016, and in 2021 began the process of seeking reaccreditation. The effort was undertaken by a 60-member committee led by Lila Vizzard and Nicole Greer.

“We are pleased to be recognized again,” said Addo-Ayensu. “We hope this announcement will reassure our community, partner organizations, funders and elected officials that the services we provide are responsive to meeting the complex needs of our community.”
