Falls Church had priciest real estate in Mid-Atlantic last year

Large preponderance of single-family homes helped propel 'Little City' to top

Of the roughly 70 localities spread across six states that comprise the Mid-Atlantic catchment area of Bright MLS (the region’s multiple-listing service), Falls Church in 2023 proved the leader of the pack, both in terms of median sales prices and average prices.

In each case, though, prices for Falls Church – known to its residents as “the Little City” – were down slightly from a year before.

In terms of average sales price, Falls Church recorded a year-end result of $956,048, down 3.1 percent from a year before. It was followed by Arlington ($849,606, up 5.6%); the District of Columbia ($829,925, down 1.1%); Somerset County, N.J. ($809,996, up 12.4%); and Fairfax County ($790,367, up 3.8%).

Switch to median sales price – where half of prices came in higher and half lower – and Falls Church was still on top at $865,000, down 6.5 percent from a year before.

Rounding out the top five in terms of median prices: Somerset, N.J. ($740,00, up 8%); Loudoun County ($690,000, up 3%); Arlington ($685,000, up 5.4%); and Fairfax County ($680,000, up 3.8%).
