Wakefield's Jackson Gray cleared a personal best 12 feet in the pole vault at the 6D North Region boys track and field meet.

The Wakefield Warriors continued their strong post-season in high-school track and field competition with runner-up finishes in the girls and boys 6D North Region championship meets.

The second-place performance followed championships for both squads in the Liberty District meets.

At the region, the Wakefield girls scored 84 points and the boys 71. South Lakes won both titles, the girls with 114 points and the boys with 120.

Like at districts, the Wakefield teams were led by multiple individuals who recorded personal-best marks in their events in the region meet, held in Prince George’s County.

Leading the girls was pole vault champion Hosanna Connor with a jump of 10-feet, 7-inches (personal best) and the winning 4x200 relay in a school-record time of 1:46.64. The relay consisted of Grace Armitage, Kenedy Shields, Kennedy McClary and Madeleine Wearing.

Connor also was second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Shields was second in the 55 dash, third in the high jump and seventh in the 300 dash. Armitage was third in the triple jump, fourth in the 55 hurdles and fifth in the long jump.

Also busy for the Wakefield girls was Sofia Vazquez. She was sixth in the triple jump, eighth in the long jump and ninth in the pole vault. Addison Young was fourth in the 1,600, as was Ada Jordan in the 500. Quincy Daigle was sixth in the 1,000.

Wakefield’s 4x400 and 4x800 relays were both second.

The one win for the Wakefield boys in the region meet came in the 4x200 relay in 1:31.7. Chris Gilpin, Owen Jacques, Thuyon Smith and Silas Lesparance made up that relay.

Individually, Gilpin was second in the 55 dash (school record) and fourth in the high jump and Jacques was third in the 500.

Ben Chapuis was second in the high and triple, jumps and ninth in the long jump.

Wakefield shot putter Michael Hutchinson set a school record with a throw of 49-43/4 to finish second, Jackson Gray tied for third in the pole vault with a personal-best jump of 12 feet, Logan Ward was fourth in the 1,000, Travon Buckner was fifth in the high jump, Frank Mani sixth in the triple jump, Lesparance sixth in the 500, Smith seventh in the 55 dash, Liam Keish eighth in the 1,600 and Noah Gunville ninth in the 3,200.

Wakefield’s 4x400 relay finished third.

Next for many of the Wakefield athletes will be the Class 6 state meet in a few days.
