MALICIOUS WOUNDING BY MOB:

•• On April 10 at 11:59 p.m., a man was in the 3500 block of 23rd Street South when he was approached by approximately eight teenagers, Arlington police said.

The suspects assaulted the victim, stole his personal property and fled the scene on foot, police said.

Responding officers canvassed the area for suspects, but did not locate any.

The victim sustained what were described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING:

• On April 6 at 5:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Glebe Road for a report of a fight, Arlington police said.

Based on the investigation, two men engaged in a verbal dispute inside a business before the victim exited the store. The suspect allegedly followed the victim, brandished what appeared to be a knife and chased the victim while making threatening statements, police said.

The suspect then entered the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the interior, police said, during which a witness was able to call police.

Responding officers located the suspect and took him into custody. During the investigation, a box-cutter was recorded.

The suspect – Shamonn Rumph, 35, of no fixed address – was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding and attempted robbery.

ASSAULT-AND-BATTERY:

• On April 8 at 11:58 a.m., two women entered a parking garage in the 3000 block of Washington Boulevard when they became engaged in a dispute regarding driving, Arlington police said.

The victim parked her vehicle, police said, during which the suspect approached her on foot, allegedly banged on her vehicle and assaulted her. The suspect then entered her vehicle and, as she was fleeing the scene, struck the victim with her vehicle, police said.

The victim received injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening.

During the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect and obtained warrants for assault-and-battery and attempted malicious wounding.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING:

• On April 6 between 10:11 and 10:34 p.m., an unknown suspect or suspects threw rocks at occupied residences in the 4300 block of North Pershing Drive, the 4200 block of 2nd Road North and the unit block of North Trenton Street, Arlington police said.

Damage was caused to windows, but no injuries were reported. The suspect fled.

ROBBERY:

•• On April 10 at 6 p.m., a man was in the area of North Quincy Street and 5th Road North when two men assaulted him and stole cash and a phone before fleeing, Arlington police said.

The victim suffered injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening, and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspects are described as black males wearing black sweatshirts.

•• On April 11 at 3:52 a.m., a man and woman known to each other had just exited a residential building in the 2300 block of 11th Street North when a verbal dispute took place, Arlington police said.

The man then assaulted the woman and stole her phone, police said.

The victim sustained injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening. She was provided information about obtaining warrants via the county magistrate.

BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:

•• On April 11 at 4:34 p.m., a storage unit within a residential building in the 4700 block of 31st Street South was entered, Arlington police said.

The suspect or suspects left personal items inside, but did not take any items belonging to the victim, police said.

VEHICLE THEFT:

• Arlington police on April 9 reported the following stolen vehicles:

> A silver 2013 Hyundai Sonata with District of Columbia plates was reported stolen April 8 from the 800 block of Army Navy Drive.

> A gray 2023 Honda Civic with Virginia plates was reported stolen April 8 from the 2700 block of North Jefferson Street.

> A silver 2011 Infiniti G37 with Virginia plates was reported stolen April 8 from the 4500 block of Arlington Boulevard.

•• On April 11, Arlington police reported that, a day before, a black 2004 Buell motorcycle was reported s stolen from the 1500 block of 12th Street South.

POLICE REPORT FEBRUARY ARREST DATA:

• The Arlington County Police Department  in February made 237 arrests in February (220 adults and 17 juveniles), a figure down from 2023 but up from 2022, according to new police data.

The department previously recorded 268 arrests (242 adults plus 26 juveniles) in February 2023 and 203 arrests (199 plus 4) in 2022.

For the first two months of the year, arrests totaled 485 (441 plus 44) compared to 533 (491 plus 42) in January-February 2023 and 426 (418 plus 4) for the same period in 2022.

VEHICLE THEFTS INCREASING IN COUNTY:

• Vehicle thefts continue to be a growing threat across Arlington, according to new police data.

The Arlington County Police Department recorded 40 vehicle thefts in February, well up from the 18 reported a year before and 21 in February 2022.

Vehicle theft has become such a major issue that the police department will be hosting giveaways of steering-wheel-lock devices to help deter auto thieves ahead of the peak summer season.

In addition, owners of certain Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Honda and Chevrolet models that are high on the list of most-stolen vehicles nationally are being offered an Apple Air Tag to aid with recovery efforts, should a vehicle be stolen.

Upcoming events include:

> Wednesday, April 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 830 23rd St. South.

> Tuesday, April 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at Arlington Assembly of God, 4501 North Pershing Drive.

VEHICLE CRASHES AVERAGING 4 PER DAY:

• The Arlington County Police Department investigated what works out to more than four vehicle crashes per day February, according to new data.

The total for the month was 135 crashes, according to figures reported by the department.

Two of those incidents involved serious injuries, and 12 involved pedestrians, according to police data.

During the month, police issued 2,043 citations and warnings for a variety of issues, according to the figures.
