Vienna Little League holds opening-day ceremonies

New mascot is revealed; Goldsmith added to honor roll

The traditional activities occurred as usual during Vienna Little League's 2024 opening-day ceremonies the morning of Saturday, April 13 at Yeonas Park.

There was a parade of teams onto the middle Nance Field, first-pitches were thrown there by town politicians, recognitions were made of last seasons championship all-star teams, and a new league mascot named "Dinger" was revealed.

Current high-school varsity baseball players from multiple local schools who are former Vienna Little Leaguers were on hand and introduced.

Jimmy Goldsmith, who takes care of the league's facilities, was added to the league's honor roll, receiving a plaque for his work over the years. Goldsmith also coached in the league and is an assistant football coach at Madison High School

Caroline Braden, a current member of the Vienna Little League Major Blue Jays, was introduced for being selected as one of 96 female players nationally who will participate in June in the Girls with Game Little League World Series competition in Williamsport.

"That is a huge accomplishment," Vienna Little League president Andy Dinn said.

Vienna mayor Linda Colbert and Ttown Council member Jessica Ramakis threw out first pitches to close the annual ceremony.

When the activities concluded, games were played that day at Yeonas Park.
