Oakton runner 18th at Nike Southeast Regional meet

Langley's Hazel Calway finished 74th in the Nike Southeast regional girls championship race. In the boys championship race, Oakton's Junior Allen finished 18th.

Oakton Cougars senior Junior Allen completed his high-school cross country career with a recent 18th-place finish in 15:12 at the Nike Southeast Regional championship boys race in Cary, N.C.

The winning time was 14:40 on the 5,000-meter WakeMed Soccer Park course.

Allen finished ahead of South County runner Nayan Kasperowski, who won the earlier Class 6 Virginia High School League’s state boys meet, in which Allen finished third.

In earlier meets this fall, Allen won the Concorde District and 6D North Region championships, with Chantilly’s Tristan Thurneysen second in both. Thurneysen finished 14th (15:07) in the Southeast regional.

The Southeast regional meet consisted of runners from 11 states and D.C.

In the girls Southeast Regional championship meet, Langley High School entered a team of runners that placed 21st and was led by the 74th-place finish individually by junior Hazel Calway (18:44).

Also for Langley, Lila Pesavento was 124th (19:15), Paige Poulos 188th (20:38), Lily Zavrel 209th (21:12), Avery Miller 221st (21:55) and Sadie Waters 226th (22:43).

In previous meets this fall, Calway finished second in the Liberty District, ninth in the 6D North Region and 16th in the Class 6 state meet. Pesavento was 21st in the state.

Potomac School senior boys runner Sasha Minsky ran in the 5,000-meter Nike open invitational race and finished 21st in 16:00.

Minsky was second during the regular season in the Division I private-school boys state meet and won the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference championship.
