McLean Little League holds 69th opening-day ceremonies

Annual parade along Westmoreland Street began the event

The 69th annual McLean Little League opening-day event April 13 began with a parade from McLean High School and concluded at the league’s Westmoreland Street complex. The parade included an antique firetruck.

Opening ceremonies were on the middle field with recognition of past accomplishments of teams and players, opening remarks and first pitches were thrown by Patricia Moynihan, president of the McLean Volunteer Fire Department, and league member Betsy Schroeder. Kevin Sumida hurled a first pitch from the league’s Challenger program.

League sponsors were recognized.

League president Brad Prendergast resorted to using a bullhorn for introductions because there was a problem with the sound system.

The Rachel Vagley Inspirational Leadership award was received by Catherine Stallmer and Katie Ockerman,  and the 2023 girls post-season champion age 11 all-star team was recognized.

Scott Bradshaw and Karen Vaagley Volunteer of the Year honor rolls were presented

Former umpire Jerry Schroeder was honored and local high school baseball and softball teams were present, along with the Art in Motion dance team.

The official start of the season call for “Play Ball” was handled by the group of Dylan Baldrate, Reid Merson, Catherine Stallmer, Katie Ockerman and Tre Santiago.
