McLean, Langley enjoy success at wrestling tournaments

Saxons had one individual champion in competition they hosted

The McLean High School wrestling team finished third in its pool at a tournament in Tennessee.

The McLean Highlanders and Langley Saxons were busy in recent high-school wrestling tournaments with third and fifth-place finishes, respectively, in different competitions.McLean finished third in Pool B at the Smokey Mountain Dual in Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Langley fifth at the Pat Dulany Invitational, which the Saxons hosted.

For McLean at the duals, the Highlanders won multiple matches in Pool B, including one by a 76-0 score, and lost twice.

Individually for McLean, William Lewey at 215 pounds compiled a 5-1 overall record, Jacob Daly was 5-2 at 126, John Drury was 4-1 at 285, Ryan Durry was 4-2 at 150, Easton Johnson was 4-3 at 165 and Will Olson (190) and Phillip Davis (138) each won three times. 

With two wins each were Tavian Melin (113), Hollis Freeman (157) and Nathaniel Thaler (175).

Winning a match each were Nolan Ho (120), Maxwell Kusano (144), Noah Kilgore (144) and Thomas Van Meter (165).

Next for McLean is the Battle at the Bridge tournament Dec. 29-30 at Woodbridge High School.

For Langley, Robert Ronsckvitz was the Saxons' lone individual champion at 165 with a 4-0 record, including two first-period pins. He won in the title match by a 7-6 score.

Second for Langley were Beomseok Kang (157), Thomas Swartz (215) and Ashavand Ariaban (285). Fourth were Luke Hamann (150) and Jack Jordan (190). Thomas Gillis was sixth at 176.

The Potomac School Panthers also participated in the Pat Dulany tourney and placed ninth. Bryce Hall was third at 285. Fourth were Adar Weinam (132), Jeremy DeLaVille (138) and Jason Seeber (175).
