Nick Newburn has been a top pitcher for the Langley Saxons this season.

The Langley Saxons continued their winning ways on the baseball field with a sixth straight victory the night of April 12. As a result, the high-school team is tied for first place in the Liberty District with a 4-1 record.

The Saxons stand 8-4 overall, with their last four wins all against district rivals. The four league triumphs match their total from last season when the Saxons finished with a 4-8 regular-season district mark.

Langley's latest two wins were 13-0 over the Wakefield Warriors then 6-2 over the Herndon Hornets in that April 12 contest.

Against Herndon, right-hander Nick Newburn started and pitched four innings to get the win. Cam Tallent worked the final two hitless and scoreless frames of relief, with two strikeouts and three groundouts.

Newburn has two of Langley's wins in the last four games.

With the bat against Herndon, Parker Whelan had a three-run double and Tallent, Dylan Raufer and Owen Lochhead had RBI singles.

The Saxons led 4-0 after two innings.

Against Wakefield, Lochhead had three hits with a double, three RBI and a walk. Tallent had a three-run double, Adham Sahebzadah had two RBI, Tommy Sharp had a sacrifice fly, Jaime Lee had a run-scoring single and  Whelan and Luke Greehan had an RBI each.

Langley was helped by Wakefield errors and walks.

Nick Capps started and pitched four innings to get the win in the five-inning contest shortened because of the 10-run slaughter rule. Vinnie Rana pitched one inning.

Langley led 12-0 after two innings.
