Langley High club ice hockey team enjoying strong start at 5-0

Team has won 26 straight matches over three seasons

The defending league champion Langley Saxons are off to a 5-0 start with three shutouts in club ice hockey this season.

Langley and the Chantilly/McLean high-school team are both atop the Adams Division of the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League with 5-0 records.

Langley’s shutout victories have been over Flint Hill, 10-0, Bishop O’Connell, 9-0, and Madison, 2-0. The Saxons’ other wins were over St. Paul VI Catholic, 4-3, and Heritage/Rock Ridge, 6-2.

The five wins extends Langley’s three-season winning streak to 26 straight matches. The Saxons have won the league championship three of the past five seasons.

Langley goalie Harrison Smith has a 3-0 record, and Andrew Kim and Jake Moser are 1-0.

The Saxons’ leading scorers are Noah Scheinerman, Christopher Valko, Alexander  Oehm, James Wu, Aidan Jacques, Ethan Zhao, Peter Kuligowski, Grant Segal, Nicholas Samburg, Owen Slamowitz and James Plourde.

Leading scorers for Chantilly/McLean are Connor O’Sullivan, Connor Morgan, Luka Kymalainen and Satvik Chandran. Daniel Dille has a 4-0 record in goal.

Chantilly/McLean has defeated Oakton, Madison, Herndon/South Lakes, Flint Hill and Loudoun Valley/Woodgrove.

Langley and Chantilly/McLean don’t meet until the final regular-season match on Feb. 9.

Oakton has a 4-2 record. Leading scorers are Jackson Mika, Will Thompson, Nate Baltas and Evan Job. Connor Baker is 4-1 in goal.

For the 2-3 Madison team, Jack Spiess, Taizo Cesari, Christian Shugars, Dean Pomeroy and Luke Sangkharat are leading scorers.

Flint Hill is 2-4 in the Norris Division. Top scorers are Colin Barnett, Arjun Nayar, Tyler Waterman and Christian Kim.

The season schedules resume Jan. 5 for most of the teams.
