Vienna Town Council members on March 20 unanimously awarded an additional $18,503 to the Vienna Police Headquarters’ construction contractor as part of a final settlement for the project.

The Council in October 2020 had awarded Hoar Construction a $13.9 million contract, including a 5-percent contingency allowance, to build the new police station at 215 Center St., S.

But the project later was hampered by supply-chain issues that complicated delivery of construction materials and the town made some unanticipated redesigns, which bumped up costs, town officials said.

The final project cost came to $14,167,202 following a final settlement and change order negotiated with the contractor by Downey and Scott, the firm the town hired to serve as project managers.

That final $96,272 net change order included the contractor’s $43,000 credit to the town for substantial delay in project turnover, officials said.
