Vienna celebrates volunteerism with annual awards program

Mayor Linda Colbert bestowed honors during April 16 event

Volunteers perform essential tasks and enhance Vienna’s sense of community, and the town government on April 16 gave some of those standout residents their due.

Mayor Linda Colbert led the proceedings at the 23rd annual Mayor’s Volunteer Recognition, held at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department’s upstairs Flame Room. Her late mother, former Mayor M. Jane Seeman, started the tradition.

The lauded volunteers “are the heart of our community,” said Colbert, who read a proclamation praising them.

Town Business Liaison Committee chairman Jen Morrow presented the annual Carole Wolfand Community Service Award to Maggio’s Family Restaurant, which has operated in the town since 1990. The restaurant regularly takes part in town events, such as the annual Halloween Parade, and during the pandemic aided the Shepherd’s Center by preparing meals for lonely and isolated people, Morrow said.
