Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill), during the “board matters” section of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ March 19 meeting, introduced a resolution honoring ViVa! Vienna! for its 40th anniversary this year.

The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Vienna, “celebrates the unity and strength of the Vienna community and honors Memorial Day.”

The festival over the decades has grown to become a major fund-raiser for the Rotary Club, which each year uses proceeds from the event to support more than 70 local charitable, educational and community groups.

“Working in concert with the town of Vienna, the Rotary Club puts on a first-class event that draws thousands to the historic areas of Vienna, which include the Freeman [Store & Museum], old Vienna railroad station, the caboose, W&OD Trail and Church Street,” Alcorn said.

“ViVa! Vienna! is truly a model community event, providing a fun family weekend for residents and visitors and providing much-needed funds to support the community throughout the year,” he said.

Supervisors approved Alcorn’s motion to invite Rotary Club of Vienna’s leaders and Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert to the board’s May 21 meeting to receive a proclamation recognizing the 40th anniversary of ViVa! Vienna!
