A motorist who was traveling westbound in the 600 block of John Marshall Drive, N.W., on Dec. 31 at 5:09 p.m. disregarded the stop sign at Lawyers Road and struck a stone wall, Vienna police said.
Rescue personnel responded to evaluate the driver, but he declined transport to a medical facility.
Upon interacting with the driver, police detected signs of impairment and arrested him after he failed to complete a series of field-sobriety tests.
Police transported the 52-year-old Reston man to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. After the man provided a sample of his breath for analysis, authorities charged him with driving while intoxicated.
Because he had suffered minor injuries in the accident, authorities released the man on an unsecured bond.
