Continuing a partnership that has run for more than 35 years, the St. Paul VI Catholic High School community recently concluded a successful food drive benefiting Food for Others during Hunger Action Week.
“Food for Others is a vital organization in Northern Virginia that acts both as a food bank, distributing resources to other locations, and as a food pantry, directly assisting individuals and families in need in Loudoun and Fairfax counties,” school officials said.
The food drive was coordinated by the Student Government Association and incorporated an advisory competition that resonated with Paul VI’s spirit of service. Each day, an empty truck was filled with donated items.
The focus this year was on items needed for the Power Pack Program, which provides weekend meals to students facing food insecurity.
Items donated included approximately 63,000 breakfast meals; 27,000 vegetable and fruit cans; 26,000 fruit cups and apple-sauce pouches; 24,000 ramen and cup-of-noodles; and 10,000 macaroni-and-cheese and Chef Boyardee meals.
