A Vienna police officer on Jan. 20 at 8:46 p.m. observed two juveniles walking alone in the shopping-center parking lot in the 200 block of Cedar Lane, S.E., while wearing light clothing in frigid temperatures.

The children told the officer their mother had sent them to the shopping center to pick up a food order.

The officer placed the children in his cruiser to get them out of the extreme cold, picked up their food order and drove them home. After speaking with the children’s mother, the officer consulted with a magistrate, who issued two felony warrants for the woman charging her child abuse/neglect.

The officer went to the residence on Patrick Street, S.E., and arrested the 26-year-old Vienna woman. Police took her to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served her with the two warrants and held her on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
