SENIOR SAFETY SUMMIT COMING TO McLEAN COMMUNITY CENTER: A Senior Safety Summit on April 24 at the McLean Community Center will offer tips on risk reduction, search-and-rescue, missing persons, financial crime, romance and business scams, crime prevention and safety.
The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon, has been developed in collaboration with the McLean Citizens Association (MCA), McLean Community Center, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Fairfax County Police Department.
The event is free of charge and no registration is required.
Among those scheduled to make remarks are Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis, Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department Chief John Butler, MCA president Linda Walsh and McLean Community Center executive director Betsy May-Salazar.
Brief introductions also will be made by Fire and Rescue Department policy adviser Marlon Murphy, Battalion Chief Matt Cox of Fire Station 29 in Tysons, Lt. Deanna Weand of the county police department’s Community Engagement and Equity Bureau, Capt. Derek Gray of the police department’s McLean District Station and MCA public-safety liaison Patrick Smaldore.
A question-and-answer session will follow the remarks.
McLEAN ART SOCIETY, VIRGINIA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA TEAM UP: The McLean Art Society will participate in the Virginia Chamber Orchestra’s performance at Capital One Hall in Tysons on Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m.
The hybrid event combines classical chamber music with local art. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to view original art by talented local artists – including watercolorists, oil painters and sculptors –with art available for purchase.
Artists will be on site from 3 to 4 p.m., during intermission and after the performance to meet concertgoers and share the inspirations for their works.
The concert features works of Beethoven, Mozart, Vaughan Williams and Mendelssohn with guest artist Brian Ganz, regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation.

INNOVATIVIVE ‘UGLY DUCKLING’ COMING TO ALDEN THEATRE: New Orleans-based Lightwire Theatre will present “The Ugly Duckling” at the Alden Theatre of the McLean Community Center on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m.
The troupe uses light, technology and music coupled with cutting-edge puppetry, music and dance to reimagine the classic tale.

KOREAN TROUPE BRINGS FAMILY SHOW TO ALDEN THEATRE: BRUSH Theatre of Korea’s family friendly production of “Poli POP” will be presented on Sunday, April 21 at 4 p.m. at the Alden Theatre of the McLean Community Center.
“This colorful and playful new production features live musicians, stunning interactive animations and painted projection mapping,” center officials said.
