Local students come home with CAPPIES honors

Salute to student theater was held at Kennedy Center

South Lakes High School's production of "Bright Star" was named 2023 Outstanding Musical in the CAPPIES honors.

Students from local schools took home a number of awards at the 23rd CAPPIES (Critics and Awards Program) Awards gala, held June 12 at the Kennedy Center.

Sarah Hilton of Langley High School received the Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Play award for her performance in “The Man Who Came to Dinner.” Idil Erdogan of McLean High School received the Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Musical award for his performance in “Claudio Quest.”

Jonah Uffelman of James Madison High School received the Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Play award for his performance in “Much Ado About Nothing.” Joana Lima Alves Montenegro of Langley High School received the Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Play award for her performance in “The Man Who Came to Dinner.”

Dillon Prestidge, Emma Springer and Megan Wright of McLean High School were honored with the Sound award for their efforts in “Claudio Quest,” while Charles Bucher, Ella Clarke and Cullan Kelley of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology received the Lighting award for their work in “Pippin.”

McLean High School was honored for Best Song for its rendition of “Platypus Heart” in the production of “Claudio Quest.”

Hannah Frieden of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology received the Bill Strauss Graduating Critic Award, and the Thomas Jefferson contingent received the Critic Team honor.

At the ceremony, Lake Braddock Secondary School’s production of “Dracula” was named Outstanding Play and South Lakes High School’s production of “Bright Star” was named Outstanding Musical.
