Montgomery County, Md., police, guided by surveillance from a Fairfax County police helicopter, on March 1 arrested a suspect who allegedly just had robbed a bank in Great Falls.

Fairfax County police officers at 10:59 a.m. responded to a reported armed robbery at Wells Fargo Bank, 750 Walker Road. The suspect entered the bank, then allegedly displayed a firearm and demanded money. The suspect reportedly took cash and left in a vehicle before officers arrived, police said.

Officers immediately began searching the area in adjacent districts. An officer saw a gray Acura disregard a red light at a high rate of speed near Interstate 495 and provided officers with a lookout. Another officer spotted the Acura and updated the vehicle’s location until a Fairfax police helicopter was overhead.

The helicopter crew directed Montgomery County police officers to the suspect’s location, where they took him into custody safely. Police arrested Michael Allen Reid, 61, of Maryland and reportedly found evidence of the robbery inside the vehicle.

Police transported Reid to Montgomery County Jail, where authorities are holding him until he can be remanded back to Fairfax County on the bank-robbery charge.
