George Mason University has launched a pilot glass-recycling effort at its Fairfax campus.

Glass bottles and jars can be recycled at bins located in several areas on campus. They must be clean but can be of any color glass and can include lids and labels.

Many Northern Virginia localities previously had included glass as part of recycling programs, but began eliminating them because of the costs involved. Many of those localities have done what Mason is doing – provide drop-off locations where glass can be deposited and then is recycled.

For information on Mason’s recycling policies, see the Website at http://green.gmu.edu/campus-sustainability/zero-waste.
