Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia hosted its first-ever Trivia Night fundraiser in celebration of International Women’s Day recently at Commonwealth Brewing Co. in the city of Fairfax.

Funds raised from the event totaled $13,000 and will support expanding the organization’s programming and scholarships.

Within the 25 teams that participated in the trivia, many were formed of long-time friends, while some were strangers who became friends by the end of the night.

Emily Wells, the restaurant’s general manager, said “how important it is to support and give back to a community that has embraced us so warmly.”

“Working with organizations like Girls on the Run is what Commonwealth Brewing is all about,” she said. “We want to inspire the next generation and build a sense of belonging.”

Attendees were treated to five rounds of trivia highlighting the achievements of women and girls covering sports, science, movies/TV, history and music. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.

“It was invigorating to see so many of our supporters from different areas come together,”  said Caroline Woods, executive director of Girls on the Run.
