The Fairfax County Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Squad wrapped up 2023 with a successful “Safe December” initiative, department officials said.

The squad’s officers in December made more than 680 traffic stops and recorded 63 reckless-driving citations, 176 speeding infractions, 47 arrests for driving under the influence and 88 citations for failure to obey signs.

The increased vigilance and proactive measures of the DUI Enforcement Squad deterred impaired driving and heightened community awareness about the importance of responsible alcohol consumption. police said. The collaborative efforts of the squad, in conjunction with public outreach campaigns, reinforced the message that choosing a sober ride is a critical decision that safeguards lives and ensures a safe holiday celebration for all, they noted.
