FAIRFAX COUNTY POLICE ARREST THIRD SUSPECT IN McLEAN HOME-INVASION ROBBERY: Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Unit on March 21 arrested a 24-year-old Lorton man for his alleged involvement in an armed home-invasion robbery in McLean last November.

County police officers on Nov. 27 at 5:45 a.m. responded to a burglary in the 1300 block of Spring Hill Road in McLean. Three suspects allegedly entered the victim’s residence forcibly, brandished a firearm and demanded money.

The men reportedly assaulted two victims inside the home and then ran from the residence. Rescue personnel took one victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries considered not life-threatening.

Officers, with assistance from the police department’s helicopter and K9 units, responded to assist with the search. One of the suspects was spotted by the helicopter as he allegedly attempted to conceal himself by lying on the ground.

Officers arrested Jaquan Ross, 32, of Lorton at the scene. Authorities have charged him with three counts of abduction, three counts of robbery, burglary, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

County police later arrested Elijah Thomas, 24, of Dumfries as one of the men allegedly involved in the robbery. Authorities have charged Thomas with three counts of abduction, three counts of robbery, burglary, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Detectives later identified Cartier Wesley, 24, of Lorton as the third alleged participant in the robbery and obtained warrants for his arrest. Police arrested Wesley on March 21 and authorities have charged him with three counts of abduction, three counts of robbery, burglary, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

All three suspects are being held without bond.

VIENNA POLICE ARREST MAN, 42, ON STRANGULATION, ASSAULT-AND-BATTERY WARRANTS: The Fairfax County Police Department on March 18 requested that Vienna police serve a warrant at the workplace of a wanted person. Vienna police at 1:44 p.m. went to the Dollar Tree store at 215 Maple Ave., W., and contacted the suspect.

Vienna police arrested the 42-year-old Fairfax man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with the two outstanding warrants for strangulation and assault-and-battery on a family member.

Authorities held him on a $2,000 secure bond and remanded him to the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.

VIENNA POLICE BAN COUPLE FROM PHARMACY, ARREST MAN ON ACTIVE WARRANTS: An employee at CVS, 337 Maple Ave., E., told Vienna police on March 16 at 9:47 p.m. that a suspicious man and woman had been walking around the store for several hours.

The employee asked officers to help ban the couple.

Interacting with the couple, police found that the Prince William County Police Department had two active warrants for the man. Vienna police advised the couple they both were trespassed from the store and might be arrested if they returned to the premises.

Police arrested the 43-year-old Manassas Park man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with warrants charging failure to follow conditions of release and failure to obey a court order.

VIENNA MAN, 46, ARRESTED ON WARRANTS FOR VIOLATING PROTECTIVE ORDER: A Vienna police officer went to a home in the 300 block of Springwood Court, N.E., on March 16 at 9:46 p.m. to serve two warrants on a resident. The officer spoke to the man and confirmed the active Fairfax County police warrants against him.

Police arrested the 46-year-old Vienna man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with the two warrants charging violation of a protective order and held him without bond.

VIENNA MAN, 55, CHARGED WITH PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS AFTER DOMESTIC INCIDENT: A woman living in the 200 block of Charles Street, S.E., on March 15 at 6:45 p.m. called Vienna police for assistance and said her husband allegedly was intoxicated and acting out.

The man left the residence before officers arrived. Officers searched for him but were unable to locate him.

At 10:20 p.m., the woman called police again after the man returned home and allegedly was acting aggressively with the family. The man again left the residence and was located by officers near Locust and Glyndon streets, S.E.

The man reportedly refused the officers’ commands and would not speak to them. Police arrested the 55-year-old Vienna man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with being drunk in public.

VIENNA WOMAN SCAMMED INTO DEPOSITING FUNDS INTO BITCOIN ACCOUNT: A woman living in the 1100 block of Westbriar Court, N.E., informed Vienna police on March 15 at 11:10 a.m. that she had received pop-ups on her computer that stated her information had been compromised and instructed her to call a number for assistance.

The resident called the number she believed was for the Microsoft Security Section. One of those she spoke to said one of her accounts had been used illegally to purchase child pornography.

The unknown person advised that for her to avoid further issues, she would need to withdraw money from her account and deposit it into a Bitcoin account. After following the instructions, the woman realized it was a scam.

VIENNA RESIDENT TAKEN IN LAW-ENFORCEMENT PHONE SCAM: A resident living in the 1000 block of Rachel Lane, S.W., on March 16 at noon informed Vienna police about falling prey to a phone scam in which the scammer impersonated a representative from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller instructed the victim to withdraw a large sum of money from the person’s financial institution and deposit it into an account provided by the scammer at a nearby Bitcoin ATM.

VIENNA WOMAN SCAMMED INTO DEPOSITING LARGE SUM INTO BITCOIN DEPOT: A woman living in the 900 block of Moorefield Hill Grove, S.W., told Vienna police on March 20 at 8:07 p.m. that she had fallen victim to a phone scam wherein the scammer posed as a representative from PayPal.

The caller informed the victim the company had made an error and refunded her too much money. The scammer then instructed her to withdraw a large sum of money from her bank to cover the alleged excess money paid to her and deposit it into an account provided by the scammer at a nearby Bitcoin depot.

VIENNA MAN REPORTS STICKERS STOLEN FROM HIS LICENSE PLATES: A resident living in the 200 block of Moore Avenue, S.E., told Vienna police on March 15 at 9:05 a.m. that someone had stolen the month and year stickers from his license plates.

POLICE: LICENSE-PLATE-READER UPDATES PAY DIVIDENDS: Fairfax County Police Department leaders say new-generation license-plate readers (LPRs) are paying off in terms of safety for the community.

Previous LPR equipment only could read license-plate numbers, but the new versions can detect a vehicle’s make, model, color and defects, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis told a recent meeting of a Fairfax County Board of Supervisors committee.

In 2023, the first full year when county police used the LPR system, it helped police recover 134 stolen vehicles worth a total of $2.1 million, arrest 222 people on 724 charges (480 felonies, 244 misdemeanors), locate 19 missing people and recover 23 firearms.

The equipment also helped police recover narcotics in 57 cases, county officials said.

FAIR WARNING: FAIRFAX COUNTY POLICE ANNOUNCE 2024 SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS: Don’t say you weren’t warned. The Fairfax County Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints around the county throughout the year  to identify and remove impaired drivers from local roadways.

The checkpoints, hosted by the department’s dedicated Driving Under the Influence squad and district stations, will occur between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. on:

• April 13 at Little River Turnpike and Woodland Road.

• April 20 at Arlington Boulevard and Graham Road.

• May 3 at Telegraph and Franconia roads.

• May 17 at Richmond Highway and Jeff Todd Way.

• May 25 at Ox and Clara Barton roads.

• June 1 at Route 50 and Rugby Road.

• June 7 at Richmond Highway and Furnace Road.

• June 28 at eastbound Leesburg Pike and Fairfax County Parkway.

• July 6 at Braddock and Ox roads.

• July 12 at Burke Lake Road in front of Lake Braddock High School.

• Aug. 3 at Little River Turnpike and Minor Lane.

• Aug. 9 at Clifton Road and Burns Way.

• Sept. 6 at Richmond Highway and Shannon’s Green Way.

• Oct. 26 at westbound Leesburg Pike and Westpark Drive.
